Client wanted to develop a new competency within business group to enable 600 associates nationwide to develop and maintain three Web sites accessed over 40,000 times a day. Due to the technical infrastructure of the sites and the support organizations involved, the implementation of a packaged content management tool was not an option. In addition, limited resources and budget mandated a highly efficient solution that would still be effective in aiding the overall goals of the organization.
Solution:
Swimfish defined and implemented an organizational model for an online services group that shared business resources from across the organization. The members of this inter-disciplinary team were from key content publishing groups and served as Site Managers to oversee work performed on a specific Web site. Using process-reengineering techniques, we seamlessly integrated technical support organizations and dramatically reduced fulfillment times for Web development projects while increasing project volume.
Features:
The voice of the end-user was more effectively integrated for each site. The functionality of the sites expanded, and were able to include elements of dynamic knowledge management and personalization. Further, the project provided the framework for the client to focus on driving increased employee self-sufficiency through tools delivered on the Intranet.
Benefits:
The solution reduced Web site maintenance time-to-fill by 79% and tripled the volume of Web development projects while only increasing dedicated headcount by one person. Work processing across business units was streamlined, setting the stage for the deployment and rapid acceptance of Web-based collaboration tools. Through this work, a common culture was enabled and subsequently established across diverse business units.
